“Uh, Doug, is that still you in there? You’re fucking hot, man.” “It’ll do.” I finally said, spinning back to the boys triumphantly. Maybe later I could apply some makeup for the finishing touch. Taking another glance in the mirror I was pleased with the look. Her dress was very classy and went well with my hair and eye color, I thought. My every movement was like a dancer, as I put on Chloe’s panties and bra I was surprised to find they fit so well. It was smooth and perfect, my hips rounded nicely and my butt was pert and nice. I moved to a corner of the room and when I was *almost* sure none of the boys were watching me I casually slipped out of my boy clothes. My voice sounded even more foreign, it was lovely and polite. I rolled my eyes and knelt to pick up the clothes, “I could use some privacy, please.” I spoke softly. He tossed a few things into the floor at my feet, “Hope you like them, **lady**.” “I got the clothes!” Wex burst into the room while I was still getting my bearings. I brought my slender arms up to look at them, and naturally took a pose that was extraordinarily delicate and feminine. The magic penetrated me and I took a step back, my foot catching the ground behind me on my toes. we usually use it to help ballerinas and stuff.” He made his own set of gestures, maybe a little clumsily, and said the spellword: “I guess I could try this one? Might be funny. I think he had been studying sports magic? He was a big guy, kinda slow but well meaning. That was frustrating, but honestly, Chloe’s clothes *would* fit me a lot better, and she always looked so hot. Hey Wex, do you have any of your girlfriend’s clothes lying around your room our friend here can borrow?” Wexley laughed at that and nodded, then bolted to his room, while the others also laughed thinking it was some kind of dig at me. It wasn’t working.ĭiego flashed a sly smile. I thought you’d change them to something more modern and trendy?” I took off the hoodie I was wearing and tied it around my skinny waist, trying to get it to look good on my body. “Uh, okay? I don’t think your spell did anything, I’m still wearing these ugly-ass guy clothes. I just kept standing there, looking down at my frumpy-looking clothes and waiting. “What did you do?” One of the guys asked Diego. At first nothing happened, I just waited for my clothes to tear themselves apart and be replaced with something fresher, but that didn’t happen. He made some outlandish hand motions and said the spellword: “You make a hot girl, Doug, but I think your wardrobe needs a lift, huh? A girl like you needs a good ‘fit to match.” Diego was a master of transmogrification. We agreed to that much.” Marko reminded him. I didn’t want them to get any weird ideas. “Okay, okay, my turn next!” Diego chimed in. I had to look away, the vertigo from the strangeness of it all was getting too much for me. Our eyes perfectly locked, our movements synchronized. I had a complete dissonance with myself, expecting my former male body but instead seeing this incredibly hot girl stare back at me. I took a sour look at myself in the mirror, seeing my reflection betray me was awkward. “Wow, hahaha, that actually worked! I thought you were going to turn into a monster or something, but you are fucking hot, Doug! Looks better this way, doesn’t it?” Marko laughed. “WHAT THE FUCK!” I yelled, my voice carrying a higher pitch, but no less angry than I could manage before. My onlookers watched in horror and arousal as it ended. My hair grew long and full, and I became a small, dainty, impossibly beautiful woman. My chest erupted into two breasts, my genitals morphed into a womb and vagina. It hurt so much! I could feel my face moving, everything in my body twisting and shrinking and growing simultaneously. “Beauty!? What the fuck, but that changes people into- UGH!” My ribs crackled and my body felt like it was on fire. You probably heard about it, but no one at this school has the balls to actually do it.” He made a complicated hand gesture at me, and shouted the spellword:Įveryone’s eyes widened at this. But go ahead, whatever.” I say in the chair in defeat, hoping they’d finish their humiliation and just be done with it. “I didn’t even want to play this stupid game. And now I had to subjected to this initiation? I was pissed. So many rules and traditions, backwards customs and fucked up games. You lost the game, so each of us gets to cast one spell on you.” Original TG Caption by deal’s a deal, Doug.

Sunday Telegraph Cryptic No 3172 (Hints) Hints and tips by SenfĪ very good Sunday morning from Winnipeg where we have had all sorts of Prairie summer weather this week including on Tuesday a (very) small tornado about 50 km North of the city with, thankfully, no harm done. Romans 8:31 reminds, “If God is for us, who can be against us?” (NIV) When we “go” and “do” out of motives aligned with His purposes, we become faithful stewards for our Good Father. Pride will sidetrack us if we’re not diligent to check the motives of our hearts with the hope in Christ our faith is built upon. Scripture promises when we seek Him, we will find Him. We establish this solid base by setting aside time for Him each day. (NIVSB) Our confidence must have healthy roots in, and watered daily by, God’s Word. As Christians, we are told to “go” and “do.” The encouragement from the author of Hebrews in the verse above reminds us to persevere in our faith. God calls us to be good stewards, meaning we are to “utilize and manage all resources He provides for His glory and the betterment of His creation.” (Holman Bible Dictionary.) Nowhere in that definition do the words “personal success” appear. How’s it work? First, you’ve got Today, always centered, with a vertical line running down the screen. Then add the dates to the “Project Schedule (optional)” section. menu at the top right of a project and select the “Edit name, description, and dates” option. To add start and end dates on a project, click on the Start and end dates are only available on Projects, not on Teams, since the Marketing Team is something your company always has, while a specific Marketing Project starts and ends. A vertical green line marks today, which helps you get a sense for how much time you have left. We show the dates span right at the top of the Project, so everyone knows when the whole thing is due. Part ONE: Now you’ll be able to add start and end dates on projects. Ooh, here’s one you probably never saw coming. Give it some time for the changes to sink in - we think you’re really going to love it once you get used to it. Plus, we’ve optimized the design for small and big accounts alike by dynamically resizing the cards based on the number of Teams and Projects you have. Overall, this Home Screen redesign is a vast simplification, but also a more powerful rendition. Now Home is more for you and your specific stuff, and not just big picture things like Teams and Projects. Always quickly accessible, always up to date. Below the Dock (that’s what we call the spaces for the Teams and Projects) there’s a single link which takes you to a simple A-Z list of all the Teams and Projects you have access to, not just ones you’ve pinned or recently visited.Īnd down below, we have two columns just for you: Your Schedule and Your To-Do Assignments. And if you choose to pin more than 12, you can do that too. Want something to stick around? Just pin a team or project to lock it to the top, and now you can even drag-and-drop reorder your pinned items so they’re just right. This makes the top more relevant, and not just an alphabetical collection. Second, we have 12 dedicated slots that automatically show the most recent teams and projects you’ve visited. The single button simplifies things, and the subsequent screen does a better job explaining the difference between teams and projects on creation. You also have a single button to create a new project or team - before we had multiple buttons spread in a few places. Your HQ and Teams are marked with little indicators, and everything else is a project. We no longer favor the HQ or Teams over Projects. Followed by another ten minutes, and another ten… By the end of the season, we can’t help but want another ten minutes of time with Martha Higareda’s Ortega. Even though Kovacs may have difficulty admitting it, he begins to love her, and so do we. Little by little, she wins us over with a smile here, a simple facial expression there, or an incredibly rude comment with just the right amount of force in Spanish (or English). While Higareda does an amazing job selling Ortega in action scenes and through the more intense experiences her character goes through, it’s often in the quieter scenes with the character’s mother, abuela, partner, or Kovacs where her natural charm really shines through. Ortega: “For just a few hours, stay out of trouble, okay? Saving your ass is not my only job.” Ortega’s tenaciousness and relentless pursuit of solving the murder of Mary Lou Henchy regardless of the cost to herself begin to show that she isn’t just a hot-headed detective out for blood. There’s a subtle shift in the way she carries herself that is easy to miss.įrom there, Ortega is set up as a potential antagonist for Kovacs but the two soon become allies when their interests align. The transformation happens incredibly quickly and Martha Higareda handles it brilliantly. Ortega’s politeness and kindness evaporate and she immediately starts hurling curses. That continues until Kovacs discovers that she’s interrogating him. Kristin Ortega initially comes across as a calm and collected character. Ortega’s initial introduction is somewhat harsh but Higareda forces us to love the character through her natural charm and layered portrayal Without a doubt, that makes her Altered Carbon’s scene stealer and an indispensable member of the cast. Higareda deftly balances all of these seemingly conflicting qualities and helps bring Ortega to life in a manner that makes her performance and character highly memorable. The loss of her boyfriend Ryker and the constant reminder of that loss through Kovacs’ current sleeve is heartbreaking yet decidedly human. Her relentless pursuit of the truth regarding the death of Mary Lou Henchy is admirable. Ortega is smart, tough, down-to-earth, and funny ‒ sometimes all at the same time. Ortega: “I wasn’t trying to be nice, you b–ch.” Higareda skillfully adds nuance and depth that makes Ortega an unmistakably human and relatable character despite the futuristic technology on display. Kovacs himself is placed in the sleeve of Ortega’s former partner and lover, which complicates things further. She’s caught between embracing the cortical stack technology and her Neo-Catholic upbringing that forbids bringing people back from the dead in new sleeves. The character has an underlying toughness and fierceness that serves as a reminder that Ortega won’t take any nonsense from anyone but she’s also deeply conflicted. Despite that apparent abrasiveness, it’s revealed that Ortega deeply cares about other grounders and will go to great lengths to help them at considerable personal risk to herself. She has a potty mouth (good luck finding a scene without her dropping f-bombs in English and Spanish) and a seemingly abrasive personality. Ortega starts off as an unlikely ally for Takeshi Kovacs ( Joel Kinnaman). Kristin Ortega’s role (and by extension, Higareda’s) throughout the first season of Altered Carbon may seem straightforward on the surface. RELATED | Altered Carbon Season 1: 4 Episode Challenge She manages to steal every scene she’s in despite the amount of talent the show has at its disposal, and that is no small feat. So when we say that Martha Higareda’s portrayal of Detective Kristin Ortega stands out among the rest of the cast, we don’t say that lightly. To play those characters, Netflix assembled an incredibly talented and diverse group of actors. From godlike Meths who are so wealthy they can live forever to clingy artificial intelligences to Envoy terrorists that are accustomed to changing sleeves for each mission, the futuristic Bay City is populated with many unique characters. Human bodies, or “sleeves,” have become discardable vessels for the human consciousness to inhabit. Netflix’s Altered Carbon has a highly talented cast, but it’s Martha Higareda’s remarkable performance that sticks with usĪt the center of Netflix’s Altered Carbon, a sci-fi/cyberpunk series set on Earth in 2384, is the concept of humanity being able to live forever through the use of advanced cortical stack technology. I therefore missed the fact that with some other DACs, the first seconds of a song might be cut off. Both the Levinson and the Benchmark DACs that I use deal gracefully with the lost lock and are quick to unmute when the new song is sent to the AE. One operational glitch that didn't affect my system to any significant extent but did do so for some readers was the fact that, as the AE doesn't have a local clock circuit, when the incoming data is interrupted, as it is when you change songs in iTunes, there is no longer a digital output to feed the DAC, which loses lock as a result. The files were bit-for-bit identical, proving that the AirPort Express is transparent to the music data (as is ALC, for that matter). I used iTunes on my PowerBook playing a version of the file encoded with Apple Lossless Compression to feed data to the AE. To check this, I compared a WAV file with a duplicate that I had captured on my PC from the AirPort Express's S/PDIF output. However, I found that this was not the case, that the data appearing on the AE's digital output were identical in the original file. Some audiophiles have dissed the AirPort Express on the grounds that its digital output is not bit-accurate. High-speed files were played back at half speed and hi-rez data were truncated to 16 bits, according to RME's useful DigiCheck utility for the PC. I tried using the Nicecast utility for OSX ($40) to feed iTunes with 24-bit data and 88.2kHz data from the inexpensive but excellent Amadeus audio-editing program for OSX. When you play 32kHz or 48kHz data, iTunes sample-rate-converts the data in real time before sending it to the AE. It is also important to note that the AE functions only at a 44.1kHz sample rate. These data, though, can be in any file format that iTunes recognizes, from lossy MP3s at the low-quality end of the spectrum to Apple Lossless and lossless AIF or WAV files at the high end. Whether you own a PC or a Mac, the AE works only with iTunes v4.6 or later and is limited to music files that iTunes can read ie, 16-bit data only. To use the AE in my system, I bought a $40 accessory kit made by Monster Cable that includes a 3.5mm-to-TosLink adapter cable, a 3.5mm jack-to-twin-RCA adapter cable and an extension AC cable.įirst, it is important to note what the AE doesn't do. At first glance, it doesn't appear to have a digital output, but at the innermost end of the 3.5mm jack is an optical S/PDIF transmitter. For sound, the AE outputs analog audio on a 3.5mm stereo minijack. Though the AirPort Express includes a lot of computer functionality for $129, I'll refer you to the computer magazines and the Web for that information. I therefore dashed off a set of measurements. While I bought an Apple AirPort Express to set up an IEEE802.11g Wi-Fi network for my Apple PowerBook and the PCs in my lab, along with those of wife and children, I found it useful to be able to include the he-man rig in my listening room in that network. Indeed, while I found the AirPort Express's analog output somewhat disappointing sounding, I do feel that feeding my Levinson DAC with the hub's digital output sounds "okay." Quite good, in fact. This review, however, is intended to flesh out a cryptic comment made by Wes Phillips in April's " As We See It": "When Apple introduced its AirPort Express wireless multimedia link," Wes wrote, "it even included a digital port so that an audiophile-such as Stereophile's editor-could network his system, using the AE to feed his Mark Levinson No.30.6 outboard D/A converter. Usually, a Stereophile "Follow-Up" follows up (duh!) a full review of the component in question.
